Feedbacks from Studio Visit

24 FEB CLAUDIA

-it is fine to exceed 4min

-in between of a specific documentation vs documented objectively

-there are four protesters in the film, have to include myself

-visually foreground the fish struggle

-fish=ppl in protest : make that clear, visually

-not every parts in narration is good, show the hopelessness

-pauses are good

-link the scene: pinning down of the boy to the eel scene

-try to overlap voices

-use sound record of actual protests

-shot something, 5 min

-very clear, underlying message, not just documentary

-crystallize them

-blue, ties everything

-elusive water, heavy mass, essence of the message

-talking fishes = interviewees

-show dates in sound design

-font

26 FEB MORGAN

-like the audio

-visual no, too static

-economy=fish?

-missing a villain, for the audience to feel the jeopardy and danger

- or else to lose, what is the risk?

-the essence of urgency ie what will happen if China influence HK?

-three interviews in three different styles, ie stop motion, toon boom, cut out

-animation is a lot of work , 7 min maybe too much

-realistic characters are better

-prepare a production sheet to schedule the progress

ie layers: keep in mind, tough to gage

status: In progress, done

duedate

-have a sound mixer

-morph for transition

-a map for the geographical setting, ie HK, surrounded by water

-secure the identity of the voices: talk to the sound mixer

-dont be BBC News, then what is the point of animation?

26 FEB MIKE

-point of view is built up

-can be stronger and shorter

-hard for someone who doesnt know the context

-easy to get lost when imagery is a close up

-fish talking: let ppl understand the metaphor

-different fishes hv their own colour scheme, way it sounds

-show a scene earlier: a fish fight to get back to water

-visually interesting

-smoking scene, live action

-no need to reinforce the intro. of the three interviewees with narration

-impacting visual in the beginning, then political message

-narration should be intentional, not explaining stuff

-a friend died scene, no sound

-show>tell

-use storyboard pro

-fish marching

-more wide shots, site specific ones, let the audience know where they are

-size/shape comparison among characters, to distinguish them easier

-half fish question in the market scene needs to be answered

-or else, start with another question

-history of conflict>establish the theme
